Before a day of shopping and wandering around Perth, my Melbournian friend Lien and I decided to check out Mrs S in Maylands. Mrs S sits on Whatley Crescent, with other popular neighbouring cafés such as Sherbet Bake Shop and Chapels on Whatley.
When we arrived that morning the café was busy with a few tables available. We chose to sit next to a window for optimal food photo shoot lighting. It seems like everyone who comes here orders the Rose & Berry Panna Cotta ($17.50), but that day we both felt like a savoury option.
Coincidentally we both decided to order Granny June’s Cornbread ($18.50), which is poached eggs, bacon and rocket on top of cornbread, served with a jug of maple syrup. The serving of cornbread was dense and plentiful, similar to the consistency of banana bread, but was made of corn meal and corn kernel bits. The eggs were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the saltiness of the bacon mixed with the sweetness of the maple syrup.
Mrs S also has a cute drinks menu written on the wall. That day we ordered a Soy Latte ($3.80), Mocha ($4.30) and an Apple, Orange, Watermelon Juice ($6).
Overall, we had a pleasant experience that morning and I would return again if in the Maylands area. I think on the next visit I might try out the burger or manwich!
